#WomenInSAR returns with launch of new critical survey Since its launch in 2019 at the World Maritime Rescue Congress in Canada, the IMRF’s #WomenInSAR initiative has played a critical role in bolstering the profile and role of women in maritime search and rescue (SAR) and making the industry more accessible to women. Five years on, the IMRF is looking to evaluate the progress the industry has made in gender balance and equality by conducting another industry-wide survey. The first #WomenInSAR survey, which ran in late 2020, received more than 1,600 responses from individuals and SAR organisations around the world. The results of the first survey enabled the IMRF to review and launch its official #WomenInSAR report in March 2021. It is hoped that the next #WomenInSAR survey will further the IMRF’s understanding of women’s current position in maritime SAR, as well as identify other areas of improvement that can be made to make the industry a more inclusive place for women. We continue to strive for greater inclusion of and opportunities for women in a traditionally male-oriented environment by learning more about best practices that can be used across the maritime SAR community. The IMRF’s community played a vital role in our first #WomenInSAR Survey and I look forward to working closely with them over the coming months as we step into the next phase of our initiative,” said Caroline Jupe, CEO of the IMRF. The IMRF’s #WomenInSAR campaign includes a host of resources, including our official #WomenInSAR Report and Guidance documents, alongside a number of blogs and podcasts with inspiring women in the maritime SAR sector.
