COVID-19 & Pandemic Response

With the support of Lloyd’s Register Foundation, the IMRF has developed Pandemic Response Guidance for Maritime Search and Rescue (SAR) Organisations that can be used as the basis for planning and delivering maritime SAR services in future pandemics or major health emergencies. This guidance is built on previous COVID-19 Guidance developed by IMRF members in early 2020 in response to the emerging COVID-19 pandemic.

The guidance is divided into various units that include:

- Background information on pandemics and possible actions to assist mitigation and containment;
- Roles of different stakeholders during a pandemic;
- Priorities for maritime SAR organisations;
- Options for delivering essential training;
- Guidance for non-operational activities;
- Wellbeing of SAR personnel; and,
- Safeguarding the environment.

This guidance has been prepared by an IMRF working group and has been peer reviewed by IMRF members.

It is intended for use by any SAR organisation who may find it useful, and hence is freely available on the IMRF’s website.
