We are delighted to invite you to register for our upcoming SAR Academy training session on the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System, known as GMDSS.

This will be the first activity of the IMRF’s SAR Training Academy in 2026, marking the beginning of our work to make high‑quality, standardised maritime SAR training accessible to everyone across the global SAR community.

This is an excellent opportunity to build a clear and confident understanding of the international communication framework that underpins safety at sea. You will learn how distress alerts, safety information, and routine messages are shared between ships and shore stations through modern technology and standardised procedures.

The session will take place:

DATE: 26 February

TIME: 10 AM (UK Time)

The session will last an hour and will be led by Lucy Hicks, Maritime Technical Trainer at UK HM Coastguard.

During the registration process, you will be asked two brief questions. These will help us tailor the session to your needs.

During this session, we will:

  • Explore the purpose and principles behind GMDSS.
  • Understand the equipment and systems required for compliance.
  • Learn how GMDSS interacts with SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) regulations.

By the end of this session, you will have the knowledge and confidence to operate as SAR personnel, MRCC/RCC staff, or seafarers, ensuring the standards of maritime safety and communication within your role.

Register now to secure your place. We look forward to welcoming you.
