Who We Are

The International Maritime Rescue Federation (IMRF) is an international, non-governmental organisation (NGO) that supports search and rescue (SAR) organisations with the development and improvement of maritime SAR capacity around the world.

This is done by providing guidance, facilitating training and enabling SAR providers to share knowledge and expertise between members across the IMRF community. Its work spans some of the most important issues facing maritime SAR and is vital to raising and maintaining standards, as well as improving overall global SAR capability.

Some Examples of Our Impact in 2023

• We are at the forefront of Global SAR development –  In 2023, we welcomed 22 members to our global SAR community
• As the international voice of maritime SAR, we play a significant role in the development of international SAR regulation and policy.
• WMRC in June saw 500 members of our community come  together to share, learn and network
• #SARyouOK?  Mental & health Wellbeing Campaign– 2 online workshops attended by over 150 people and our in-person workshops at WMRC and our annual meeting attended by over 120 people.
• 7 online training courses in Africa involving over 20 countries from across Africa.
• 2 in person Women In SAR trainings in Africa involving 30 women from 24 countries across Africa.
• After the years of COVID when our European Regional Meeting went online, it opened to all members in Nov 2023 we had our first in-person annual meeting opened to all members.

• Each year, the IMRF Awards celebrate the achievements of exceptional individuals and organisations, raising global awareness of the outstanding work done by people across the maritime SAR sector.
